On October 26, 2025, during the 47th ASEAN Summit in Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia), Timor-Leste officially joined ASEAN as its 11th member state. The historic milestone was marked by the signing of the Declaration on the Admission of Timor-Leste into ASEAN, witnessed by the leaders of the ten existing member countries.
