Vietnam officially joined the Ayeyawady - Chao Phraya - Mekong Economic Cooperation Strategy (ACMECS) at the first ACMECS Ministerial Meeting in Thailand in November 2004. As an active and responsible member, Vietnam has made and continues to make significant contributions to ACMECS.

The Democratic People’s Republic of Korea is the third country that Vietnam has established diplomatic ties with. Since then, Vietnam has always treasured the traditional friendship with the DPRK.

The Mekong-RoK cooperation was initiated at the 13th ASEAN-RoK Summit on October 29, 2010 when Korean President Lee Myung-bak proposed organising the Mekong-RoK Foreign Ministers’ Meeting.

The Vietnam- Japan Extensive Stratgic Partnership has developed in all areas. Japan is currently the second biggest investor and the fourth largest trading partner of Vietnam. It is also a big ODA provider for Vietnam.
