The visit to France from October 6-7 by Party General Secretary and State President To Lam takes place amid positive developments in the relations between the two countries. It demonstrates Vietnam’s high regard for the strategic partnership with France, and aims to deepen and make the ties more practical.
Over the past 45 years (September 1977 - September 2024), the cooperation between Vietnam and the United Nations has yielded positive results, fulfilling both Vietnam’s needs and interests at various stages, while enhancing Vietnam’s role, voice, and contributions to the United Nations. Party General Secretary and President of Vietnam To Lam, his spouse, and a high-ranking delegation of Vietnam are on a trip to attend the United Nations Summit of the Future and the 79th session of the UN General Assembly (UNGA 79) and hold working sessions in the US. Mozambican President Filipe Jacinto Nyusi and his spouse are on a three-day official visit to Vietnam at the invitation of Party General Secretary and President To Lam and his spouse. This trip marks President Nyusi's first visit to Vietnam since taking office and also the first visit by a Mozambican president to the Southeast Asian nation in over 17 years.
The 13th Party Central Committee (PCC) on August 16 elected Senior Lieutenant General Luong Tam Quang, member of the PCC, Secretary of the Central Public Security Party Committee, and Minister of Public Security, to the Politburo. With this addition, the Politburo now has 15 members as of August 16, 2024.
